I love this picture of Andy and Sophie, taken minutes after Sophie was born. As most new fathers (and mothers) do, he worried about his parenting abilities. Today, 11 weeks into it, I know Sophie couldn’t be luckier to call him Dad. And I know how lucky I am, too.
To thank Dad for all his good work, Sophie finally took a pacifier today, which made her surprisingly calm.
My parents visited and we ordered Indian food. I’m grateful to have been able to celebrate the day with my dad. I’m lucky in my roles of wife and mother—as a daughter, I’m incredibly lucky, too.
“There’s something like a line of gold thread running through a man’s words when he talks to his daughter, and gradually over the years it gets to be long enough for you to pick up in your hands and weave into a cloth that feels like love itself.” —John Gregory Brown
